Hex to Text Converter
Convert text to hexadecimal (UTF-8) and decode hex strings back to readable text. Tolerates 0x prefixes, colons and spaces — with strict position-aware error messages.
Notes
Text is encoded as UTF-8 — non-ASCII characters (汉字, emoji) become multiple bytes, so “世” is E4 B8 96. Decoding accepts messy input freely: 0x prefixes, colons, commas, spaces, newlines and mixed case are all stripped automatically. If the byte count is odd or a character is not hex, the error names the exact position. Invalid UTF-8 sequences are replaced with U+FFFD and reported.
How to use Hex to Text Converter
Drop hex bytes into the input — with or without 0x prefixes, spaces or commas — and readable UTF-8 text comes out instantly. The tool works both ways: text to hex for building byte streams, hex to text for inspecting what a packet, log line or database column actually contains.
Replacement characters in the output mean the bytes are not valid UTF-8 — usually a legacy codepage or genuine binary in disguise. That visual signal is the fastest way to discover what encoding you are actually looking at before you try to convert anything else.
Frequently asked questions
How does hex to text decoding work?
Hex pairs like 48 65 6c map to their byte values and decode as UTF-8 text. The tool strips 0x prefixes and separators automatically, so pasted output from any language works.
Why does my hex output show replacement characters?
That happens when the byte sequence is not valid UTF-8 — for example raw bytes of a legacy encoding or actual binary data. Check the encoding of the source system first.
Can I convert text to hex as well?
Yes, the tool works both ways in real time: text to hex and hex to text, keeping the separator style from your input so round-trips stay clean.
Is hex the same as a hash?
No. Hex here is just base-16 representation of bytes. Hashes such as SHA-256 also print as hex, but decoding hash hex will not return readable text — hashing is one-way.
